The objective of the Biomedical Waste program is to minimize the risk from potentially infectious medical waste to health care workers, environmental services and treatment personnel, transporters and the general public. Staff responsible for inspecting facilities that package, transport, store or treat biomedical waste attend a minimum of one training session per year. Permitted facilities are inspected annually and facilities determined to be exempt from permitting are inspected once every three years.
