Private Potable Well Sampling

TO: THE RESIDENTS OF FLAGLER COUNTY

Please be advised that if your private potable well has been flooded by stormwater due to Hurricane Irma, you may have your well water tested, free of charge. Well flooding occurs when flood waters enter the top of your well, or seeps down the well casing as flood water surrounds your well. This can cause bacteria, chemicals, and other contaminants to make your drinking water unsafe.

If your well has been flooded, the Florida Department of Health in Flagler County (DOH-Flagler) recommends boiling your water (rolling boil for 1 minute), or utilizing 8 drops (1/8th teaspoon) of regular unscented bleach to disinfect water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, cleaning food contact surfaces, and handwashing prior to food preparation until testing indicates that your drinking water is free of bacteria.

Sample bottles can be obtained at the DOH-Flagler Environmental Health Office located at 208 Dr. Carter Blvd, Bunnell, FL 32110. If you have any questions about well sampling please contact DOH-Flagler’s Environmental Health Office at 386-437-7358.
