Rotary and Florida Department of Health Partner to Prevent Sudden Unexpected Infant Death (SUID)

BUNNELL - Rotary of Flagler Beach and the Florida Department of Health in Flagler County have partnered to offer new parents pack n’ plays to provide a place to sleep for infants under the age of 1.

Rotary Club of Flagler Beach is providing 13 pack n’ plays for the health department to distribute to Flagler County residents. “We want to educate and spread the word about safe sleep”, said Tim O’Donnell, the Rotarian that arranged for the donation.

This partnership is to promote awareness and education of infant safe sleeping and to prevent sudden unexpected infant death (SUID) in Flagler County. Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) is when a baby under the age of 1 dies while sleeping, and no specific cause of death if found. One infant safe sleep recommendation is to not sleep with an infant. These pack n’ plays will be provided to parents that do not have a place for an infant to sleep. “We are thankful for all the support from Rotary to support our efforts to educate parents”, said Administrator of Flagler County Health Department, Robert Snyder. “Education is the best prevention.”

The pack n’ plays will be available to residents that have an infant under the age of 1 year and do not have a place to sleep. The pack n’ plays will be available while there is a supply.
