October 30, 2018
Bunnell, Fla. – Dr. Stephen Bickel, medical director of the Florida Department of Health in Flagler County (DOH-Flagler) recently added “HIV Specialist” to his extensive list of medical credentials. Dr. Bickel, who was named Flagler Volunteer of the Year earlier this year by Flagler Volunteer Services, earned the designation after passing a credentialing exam sponsored by the American Academy of HIV Medicine.
According to DOH-Flagler’s Health Administrator Robert Snyder, Dr. Bickel serves as medical director for both the Flagler and Volusia Health Departments, running their HIV clinics, and consulting with and helping to train HIV clinical staff in Seminole County.
“We are fortunate to be affiliated with Dr. Bickel, given his dedication to reducing the prevalence of HIV and improving public health in our region,” said Snyder. “Under his leadership, HIV patients in Flagler and Volusia County are able to live longer and healthier lives with fewer medical complications. In Flagler County, our team-based approach of coordinated care under his direction continues to grow with nearly 100 participants and clinical success in reducing patient’s viral loads to undetectable levels.”
Dr. Bickel has been practicing medicine for more than 40 years and has served as the Medical Director of the DOH-Flagler since 2014. Dr. Bickel is president of the board of directors of Flagler Cares and a medical consultant to Florida Hospital's Community Care program.
