Department of Health Flagler Partners With Local Hospital to Offer Breastfeeding Support Group

By Gretchen Smith

April 20, 2018

Bunnell, Fla. - The Florida Health Department of Flagler County, in partnership with the Florida Hospital Flagler, recently introduced a free breastfeeding support group for new mothers.

According to Michelle Morrell, the Health Department’s WIC & Nutrition Services Program Director, the support group met initially in late February and will continue meeting the last Wednesday of every other month at Florida Hospital Flagler in Palm Coast.

“Though the American Academy of Pediatrics recognizes breastfeeding as the best method of feeding and nurturing infants, it can be frustrating,” said Morrell’s colleague and Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Rochelle Stone. “This group gives new moms an opportunity to share their experiences, ask questions and receive encouragement.”

The next breastfeeding support group will meet in Classrooms A/B at Florida Hospital Flagler on Wednesday, April 25 from 6 to 8PM. Moms are encouraged to attend and return for subsequent meetings June 27, August 29, October 9 and December 19. To sign up, visit or call the Hospital’s Parent Education line at 396-231-3152.

For information about free nutrition programs for women, infants and children under age 5, call 386-437-7294.
